Horseback riding actually can be a good workout. Not only does riding provide cardiovascular benefits -- especially at any pace faster than a walk -- but it is a good workout for muscles that avid weekend athletes may have forgotten they had. Riding a horse forces a rider's muscles to adjust and readjust constantly in order to keep balanced atop the horse. Riding works the deep muscles in the trunk, the leg muscles and the gluteus muscles. And the best part, for some at least, about riding is that it doesn't seem like a workout as one can socialize and witness beautiful scenery during this activity.
